Saint-Malo: iconic port on the English Channel

Saint-Malo is the administrative centre of the arrondissement of the same name and the sub-prefecture of the Ille-et-Vilaine. This seaside resort has around 45 000 inhabitants, and is surrounded to the south by Saint-Jouan-des-Guérets and to the east by Saint-Méloir-des-Ondes. Saint-Malo is also bordered to the north by the English Channel and to the north-east by the commune of Saint-Coulomb. The area is characterised by its large marshes and diverse coastline. Renowned for its attractive landscapes, this iconic Breton port is not to be outdone when it comes to gastronomy either! You'll find a number of mouth-watering culinary specialities on the menu, such as mussels marinière. Or try the quiche bretonne, a tasty dish made with a variety of seafood! You can't stay here without trying the famous Saint-Malo potato. Named for its resemblance to a local potato, it's a confectionery that's very popular with young and old alike! You'll delight in this sweet made from crushed almonds, cocoa and kirsch liqueur.

The Grand Aquarium is one of the must-see tourist attractions. Here you can discover species from all the world's seas and oceans! In the tropical room, the bright colours of the 3-banded clownfish and the impressive dragon moray are particularly striking. To see the Aurélie jellyfish and the nautilus, head to the abyssal room.

It also attracts many tourists throughout the year, it is the 39-45 memorial, located in the fort of the Cité d'Alet. Immerse yourself in this dark period in France's history, looking in particular at the construction of the blockhouses and the battle for liberation.
