A rich cuisine and landscapes that have inspired so many artists

Etretat is part of the Côte d'Opale and lies on the Channel Sea. Part of the Seine-Maritime département, it is surrounded by the communes of Bénouville, Le Tilleul and les Loges. Around twenty kilometres south of Etretat is the town of Havre, a sub-prefecture of Normandy. Its territory covers around 4 square kilometres and it has just 1,400 inhabitants. The commune and its wild landscapes have inspired painters such as Claude Monet, while writers such as Gustave Flaubert have made it their holiday destination. A change of scenery, rejuvenating and delicious: that's what you'll experience on your holiday in Etretat! As well as the relaxing setting, you'll enjoy a cuisine that's as varied as it is tasty. Try the Normandy sole and the marmite dieppoise, a mouth-watering fish speciality. Poule au blanc and boudin de Saint-Romain are among the other dishes to be discovered during your stay in Normandy. Your holiday rental in Etretat is likely to be close to a typical restaurant where you can indulge in exquisite desserts. We're thinking of the Fisée pear pâté and the delicious Normandy flan, for example!

The natural and cultural heritage of Etretat

It's hard to talk about this seaside resort without highlighting its sumptuous cliffs! You'll have the chance to admire the Portes d'Amont, the Portes d'Aval and the Manneporte. Once you've immortalised these exceptional landscapes, take to the signposted footpaths and enjoy the site's remarkable biodiversity. The site is home to red fescue, sea cabbage and woolly ragwort. If you keep your eyes peeled, you might even spot cormorants and the odd peregrine falcon! Etretat is also rich in culture and history. Visitors love to explore the town on their walks and visit the Notre-Dame de la Garde chapel and the imposing Protestant temple. It is recognisable by its brick and flint, materials typical of the Cauchois style. Another structure of interest to holidaymakers is the Nungesser and Coli monument, a spire in tribute to the two aviators who failed in their attempt to cross the North Atlantic Ocean by air.

Sites to see around Etretat

Heading to Fécamp, you'll be changing departments but you won't be disappointed as there are so many remarkable sites! We recommend that you visit the Trinité Abbey and the Palais Bénédictine, two works that illustrate Normandy's heritage. Other tourist attractions attract crowds further south of Etretat, in Le Havre, such as Saint-Joseph church. This architectural gem rarely leaves you indifferent, with its large lantern tower and multicoloured stained glass windows that let the light into its interior. If you're an art lover, the museum dedicated to André Malraux is also well worth a visit. You won't be disappointed by its impressionist collection and its many watercolours!
