Situated on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, the commune of Carnac is notably surrounded by La Trinité-sur-Mer and Ploemel. It is part of the Breton department of Morbihan and has around 4 200 inhabitants. Its verdant territory covers more than 32 square kilometres and is largely occupied by forests, moors and countryside. Its reputation is largely due to its fascinating megalithic alignments, but Carnac is also a destination of choice for water sports enthusiasts. You won't be disappointed by its maritime soils, which are the source of so many delicious recipes! Don't hesitate to try the daube de congre (conger eel stew) and to order the cotriade, a mouth-watering fish speciality, at the restaurant. In Carnac and the Vannetais region, you'll particularly enjoy godaille and quiche bretonne, a seafood dish with no cheese. For dessert, enjoy a slice of far breton or kouign-amann. In short, your stay will be a gastronomic success.
The coastline is dotted with beautiful beaches in Carnac, so you might as well make the most of it! The first of these is the Grande Plage, which is supervised during the summer season and has the advantage of being accessible to people with motor disabilities. If you want to see what the windsurfers and windsurfers are up to, head for Saint Colomban, the stretch of sand to the west of the town. Beaumer beach offers a different, but just as enjoyable, atmosphere. Sheltered from the wind, this site is a paradise for anglers. It is this coastline with its many attractions that contributes to the reputation of the seaside resort. There are many ways to have fun with family and friends. An introduction to stand-up paddling is ideal for admiring the coastal scenery in a friendly atmosphere. Very easy to handle, sea kayaking lets you visit coves and enjoy a great sense of freedom. The main attractions of this Morbihan town are undoubtedly its megalithic alignments. Visitable only from October to March, they are a major part of Brittany's historical heritage. The Carnac Museum of Prehistory is a wonderful showcase for the Neolithic peoples. Don't hesitate to visit, you'll have the opportunity to see various archaeological artefacts and can watch demonstrations of prehistoric techniques.
There are several tourist attractions within a few dozen kilometres of your Carnac holiday rental. The Oddysaum, the wild salmon museum, may catch your full attention! There's also the Séné marshes nature reserve, where you can admire a wealth of flora and fauna. Other not-to-be-missed attractions in Brittany include the Vannes Aquarium (Vannes). The aquarium has a touch tank that is very popular with younger visitors, and offers regular science workshops.
