It's not the best-known destination in the Aude, but it has a lot to offer! Its gastronomy and family activities are the main features you can enjoy during your stay. Find your holiday rental in Port-La-Nouvelle from among the many Clévacances-labelled offers.
Strictly speaking, it's not a culinary speciality of Port-La-Nouvelle, but its inhabitants love it, as do most Languedocians! We're talking, of course, about the famous tielle sétoise, a pie filled with small pieces of squid, dried fish and octopus mixed in a tomato sauce. Other seafood-based recipes will delight your taste buds! These include mussel brasucade, a dish usually spiced up with a sauce that can be prepared with white wine, olive oil, herbes de Provence and even pastis. The most discerning palates are also rarely disappointed when they discover the aromas delivered by escargots à la languedocienne. Other flavours should fill you with wonder, such as fricandeau, an appetising charcuterie that can be served as a main course. At the end of the afternoon, if your stomach is rumbling, satisfy it with a slice of fougasse with fritons! One of the most popular desserts in Languedoc is the famous biterroise. You can concoct it without much difficulty with a traditional brioche pastry dough, a custard and a zest of orange blossom to flavour the whole.
The 10 kilometres of coastline welcome many tourists to Port-La-Nouvelle during the holidays. They spread out over the town's various beaches, including the Front de Mer, where there are play areas for children. The less-frequented Montilles beach will win you over with its picture-postcard setting and crystal-clear waters! If you're looking for a bit of peace and quiet, the Vieille Nouvelle beach is the place to go. Peace and quiet are also the watchwords at Parc Maréchal Leclerc. Children can have fun on the slides, while adults can breathe a sigh of relief as they stroll through the town's veritable green lung. If you're an environmentalist, you'll want to take a guided tour of the wind farm in the hills above Port-La-Nouvelle. But if you had to do just one thing in this Aude seaside resort, it would be to explore the sumptuous Sainte-Lucie Regional Nature Reserve. You can get there on foot via the towpath, but you can also reach the site by following the Canal de la Robine. The roe deer and bats of the Massif de la Clape frequent the site, as do the fascinating pink flamingos! A short walk will give you an idea of the biodiversity of this reserve, but we invite you to complete the island's long loop to discover all its riches.
After visiting the most beautiful sites around your holiday rental in Port-La-Nouvelle, take some time to discover the beautiful commune of Gruissan. The church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption might spark your curiosity, and don't forget to visit the Pirat'Parc to fill your children with wonder! Narbonne remains the other attractive destination in the Aude département. It is packed with must-see monuments, such as Saint-Just Cathedral and Fontfroide Abbey.
