Biarritz and its culinary heritage

Basque cuisine is praised by gourmets for its diversity and refinement. In France, Béarn and Gascon influences can be felt when looking at restaurant menus. What typical dishes are not to be missed in the Biarritz region? First and foremost, we invite you to try the famous Bayonne ham, accompanied by a glass of Irouléguy, a delicious Basque wine. The aromas of Piperade, which go very well with ewe's milk cheese, should satisfy your taste buds! Other recipes are sure to satisfy the palates of even the most discerning tourists, such as Axoa, a minced beef or veal dish often served with Madiran in the region's finest restaurants. In winter, Elzekaria is another Basque dish. This generous soup is a blend of white cabbage, white beans, onions and Espelette chilli. Can't do without a dessert when you go out to eat? Order a slice of Koka, a delicious flan, or treat yourself to a piece of Basque cake. This sweet treat can be enjoyed with a cup of coffee or tea at the end of lunch or at snack time.

Activities in Biarritz

Is the ocean in danger? Where do its waters come from? Is Atlantis a legend? A visit to the Cité de l'Océan provides answers to all these questions. A place where a playful approach dominates, this is an activity recommended for parents accompanied by their children!

A visit to the Biarritz Aquarium is another great opportunity for cultural enrichment during the holidays. Barracudas, long-snouted seahorses, mandarin fish and hammerhead sharks are among its most fascinating residents! This destination on the Basque Coast is dotted with several charming beaches, so you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to taking in the colours. The enchanting setting of Port Vieux beach will leave you breathless, as will the wild character of Marbella beach. You can also relax on the fine sands of Plage Milady, with family or friends. Biarritz's coastline is particularly popular with surfers, who congregate mainly on Grande Plage, a spot characterised by short, powerful waves. The town's historic heritage is epitomised by the picturesque Sainte-Eugénie church. This neo-Gothic monument is one of the tourist attractions of Biarritz and the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. In its lair, visitors marvel mainly at the sumptuous decorations and the various stained glass windows.

Destinations around Biarritz

Other sights attract the interest of visitors around your holiday rental in Biarritz. We're thinking, for example, of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, which is a major part of the heritage of Saint-Jean-de-Luz. You won't see the time go by either when you pop into Bayonne, where you'll find the Basque museum and a host of quality restaurants.

To round off your stay, there's nothing more rejuvenating than a stroll through the heart of the Izadia Ecological Park, located in the commune of Anglet.
