The Vèze municipal cottage, in the heart of the Auvergne Volcanoes Natural Park, offers a rural and natural setting for a peaceful holiday. The small village of Vèze is located at 1,030 meters above sea level, on the Cézallier plateau. The “little Mongolia Auvergne” is a region on the borders of Cantal and Puy de Dôme. It is therefore nicknamed because of its large grassy expanses with steppes. In green altitude pastures, Salers cows graze peacefully. Burons, small traditional stone constructions, chant the landscape with the backdrop of the Cantal mountains. On foot or on two wheels, let yourself be drawn to discover the riches of the small rural heritage. We go there to be quiet, survey the countless hiking trails or even practice outdoor activities (mountain biking, fishing, etc.). If you come to hike on the Cézallier plateau, you will find routes of 1 hour, 2 hours or more and circuits of several days. One of the stages of the Tour des Cows Rouge, a hiking route that is made in 8 or 11 days, goes through the village of Vèze. The rocky spurs of Saint Victor and Saint Madeleine, where two chapels face each other, signal the entrance to Massiac, the first city of Cantal on the edge of the A75. The Cantal section of Via Arvena, a variant of the main course of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, begins in Massiac. The stage that leads to the Ferrières Saint-Mary runs along the Alagnon river and goes through the ruins of the Château d'Aurouze, the Saint-Austremoine fountain ... 8 km from your cottage, Allanche is the front door of the Grand Plateau du Cézallier. In the spring, you can participate in the summer party. Each year, herds of Salers cows parade in the streets of the village before leaving for the summer pastures. Auvergne music and local products are honored during this traditional celebration. The potters market in July and the flea market and antiques, of national renown, in August, are highlights not to be missed in Allanche. We also recommend that you come there on Tuesday morning for the market. During your stay, take the time to stop at the medieval city of Murat, classified small city of character ®. The city with three rocks owes its nickname to the three basalt rocks that surround it. The Historical Center of Murat has a rich built heritage (the old court, the consular house, the Jacquemart, the collegiate church of Notre Dame des Oliviers ...). Raise your eyes or gain height to discover the remarkable roofs in Lauzes. Gourmands will not fail to savor a cone, a cookie that is celebrated on the occasion of a party in September. AT a few kilometers away, heritage enthusiasts will stop in Saint-Flour. Perched on a volcanic promontory, the city is labeled country of art and history. The many remarkable monuments and buildings of the historic center bear witness to its prestigious past. Do not leave without having taken the 330 steps of the Chemin des Chèvres! Another way to apprehend the Cézallier is to board the Gentian Express®. From the Riom-ès-Montagnes station, this tourist train will lead you to the vast wild expanses of the Cézallier plateau at 1,061 meters above sea level. In August, for a weekend, the city honors the blue cheese of Auvergne Aop. Take advantage of your visit to Riom, to visit the Avèze space. This local aperitif, to be consumed in moderation, is made from Gentian. Forty kilometers separate your resort from Riom-Es-Montagnes. The medieval city of Salers, classified more beautiful villages in France and the famous Puy Mary - Grand Site de France are among the essential sites to visit in Cantal. Plan a day to make these visits.
