Description
Character house typical of Cantal, Le Gîte Chez le Grand, welcomes you to the hamlet of Ydes-bourg for a family stay. The town of Ydes benefits from an interesting geographical location for those who want to explore the region. At the crossroads of Cantal, Corrèze and Puy-de-Dôme, between outdoor activities and heritage visits, everyone will find what they are looking for! * An independent house with garden for 6 people in Ydes-bourg Gîte Chez le Grand is located in Ydes-bourg, the original “cradle” of the town with a rich historical past (Gallo-Roman thermal springs and 12th century Romanesque church dedicated to Saint George). In this hamlet, calm and tranquility reign. Shops and services are just 3 km from your vacation rental, in Ydes-centre. This 89 m2 stone character house is spread over 2 levels and has a capacity of 6 people. The ground floor has retained the charm of the old: exposed stone walls, wooden beams and cantou (large traditional fireplace). For your comfort, a fireplace with insert has been installed in the cantou. Logs are at your disposal to enjoy a moment by the fire. A lounge area, with sofa, armchairs and television, and a dining room, with a farmhouse table, have been fitted out in the living room. The semi-open kitchen is adjoining. It has all the equipment (hob, oven, refrigerator, small appliances, dishwasher, etc.) to prepare meals like at home. A wooden staircase serves the floor occupied by the 3 bedrooms and the bathroom. The first bedroom has a double bed (140 cm), the second with 2 single beds (90 cm). The third bedroom has a double bed (160 cm) and a cot. Sheets are provided and beds are made upon arrival. The bathroom, with a wood-paneled ceiling, has a bathtub and separate toilets. During your stay, you will benefit from a semi-enclosed garden of 1400 m². Garden furniture, barbecue, sun loungers: everything is provided for basking in the sun, sharing moments of conviviality around good grilled meats... and above all enjoying the tranquility of the place! In addition, a small beach is set up on the edge of the river just 100 meters from the gîte. Good to know pets are accepted the rental has an internet connection a storage room for bicycles is at your disposal * Holidays at the crossroads of Cantal, Corrèze and Puy-de-Dôme From your vacation rental in Ydes-bourg, many activities are available to you. Here are some ideas for walks. During the summer period, in Ydes-Bourg, an exhibition presents more than 4,500 specimens of butterflies and other insects from around the world. Outdoor art exhibitions punctuate the 15-kilometre cycle path that crosses the town. 4 km from your gîte, the charming village of Saignes is home to old houses, especially on the side of the picturesque Place de l'Eglise. If you climb up to the Romanesque chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Château, you will appreciate the view of the Sumène valley and the organs of Bort. Bort-les-Orgues, precisely, deserves a closer look because of its many attractions. Located in the Dordogne valley, on the borders of Corrèze and Cantal, the city owes its name, and its fame, to a remarkable geological curiosity: the organ. This cliff of more than 2 km long, 80 to 100 meters high, constitutes an astonishing ensemble with its impressive basalt columns, formed more than 15 million years ago. No doubt, you are in the heart of the Auvergne Volcanoes Natural Park! To reach the summit, at an altitude of 789 metres, take a small path: the panorama over the Auvergne mountains is spectacular. The site is also a climbing “spot”. Another curiosity of Bort-les-Orgues is its hydroelectric dam. Commissioned in 1951, “the Dordogne Valley water tower” is 120 meters high and 400 meters long. The water retention of the dam, of nearly 500 million m3, is the 4th in France. It forms a lake, part of which has been developed in Lanobre around the Château de Val. If you are a fan of nautical activities, you can swim, pedal boat, canoe or board a boat for a cruise and set sail for the dam! With its peninsula bathed by the waters of the lake and its green setting, the Château de Val is one of the best preserved historic monuments in Haute Auvergne. Built in the 15th century, it has six towers adorned with battlements. Take the time to make a visit, free or guided, you will discover the Gothic chapel dedicated to Saint Blaise, the monumental staircase, the beautiful Renaissance fireplaces, the walkway and a splendid panorama of the surroundings. Located in the town of Trémouille, Lake Lastioulles, 23 km from your vacation rental, is bordered by forests. A fishing center offers boats for hire as well as all the equipment needed to fish for pike, zander and carp. The site is equipped for swimming and has a nautical center and picnic areas and games for children. Both peaceful and green, the site of Saint-Nazaire, in the town of Saint-Julien-près-Bort is easily accessible on foot. From the car park, it takes about 15 minutes to reach the belvedere and admire the Dordogne and Diège gorges. Halfway between Condat and Bort-les-Orgues, you can hike to the superb Gorges de Rhue. A visit reserved for nature lovers, the site, classified Natura 2000, is home to many protected plant species. A visit to the Château d'Auzers, 10 km from your accommodation, will delight history buffs. Typical of medieval architecture, the castle has been inhabited by the same family since the 15th century! Régence woodwork and furniture, vaulted dining room adorned with a monumental fireplace and Auvergne furniture, oratory dedicated to Santiago de Compostela decorated with polychrome murals from the 16th century: you will be amazed! From the park, admire the view of the Cantal mountains. The Cantal mountains in the heart of the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Nature Park are a beautiful playground for hikers and mountain bikers. The territory of the Grand Site de France Puy Mary – Volcan du Cantal has 34 short hiking trails (PR) and 2 GR®. To access the summits of Plomb du Cantal (18.55 meters) and Puy Mary (1,783 meters), trails are laid out. On the way to the Monts du Cantal, the built heritage of Salers and Tournemire, classified as the Most Beautiful Villages in France, justifies a stopover. Take the time to stop, stroll and taste the cheeses and charcuterie for which Cantal is famous! The Monts Dore, in the Regional Natural Park of the Volcanoes of Auvergne, of which the Puy de Sancy is the highest point, are among the sites to be discovered. Here again it is a magnificent hiking territory. At 1,886 meters, at the top of Puy de Sancy, you will be amazed by the panorama. So are you Puy Mary or Puy de Sancy, Cantal or Puy de Dôme?
