Description
OUR TARN HOLIDAY GITE NEAR LAVAUR IN SOUTH-WEST FRANCE was constructed in 2007. Architect-designed, the gite sleeps four people and has been built and furnished in a classical style to capture the relaxed warmth of the Midi-Pyrénées region. You can find more details on our web site www.gite-piquetalen.fr [https://www.gite-piquetalen.fr/index.en.html] Our Tarn Gite is 3km from the medieval market town of Lavaur, 7km from Briatexte, 18km from Saint-Sulpice and approximately 45 minutes from Toulouse Blagnac Airport and 90 minutes from Carcassonne Airport. Situated in the Tarn, some 40km from Toulouse, Le Gite de Piquetalen serves as a perfect base from which to discover the beautiful south-west of France. Piquetalen is 4km from Lavaur and is a small rural hamlet on the top of a hill. It is surrounded by woodland and rolling farmland which is often filled with sunflowers in the summer. The local countryside, with its gentle beauty, is ideal for country walking and cycling and is also close to numerous sites of interest. Quality Accommodation: We have more than 50 reviews from our previous guests which have been registered with and verified by our partner websites which include Clevacances, TripAdvisor, VRBO, Cybevasion and Google. All the reviews are very positive and the accommodation has a high overall rating with all of our partners. You can read a selection of the reviews on our Guest Book [http://www.gite-piquetalen.fr/reviews.en.html]. The Gite Living Area is open-planned with kitchen, dining and sitting areas. With its high ceiling, roof beams and spiral staircase, the living area has a very spacious feel to it. In the summer the French windows add to the spaciousness with views onto the garden and, in the winter, the wood burning stove gives a warm and cozy feeling to the gîte. The gîte is located in the owners' garden, at a good distance from their house so as to allow privacy. Next to the gîte is a small orchard and renters are welcome to pick cherries, plums and apricots when these are in season. Bedrooms: The accommodation has two bedrooms, one downstairs with a double bed and one on the mezzanine floor with two single beds. Both bedrooms have large built-in cupboards. An additional bed can be provided by arrangement. The Bathroom, equipped with a shower - is downstairs. Although it is not designed for wheelchair access, the bathroom and ground floor of the gite are suitable for people with mobility problems. Please contact us before booking, if you have any mobility requirements. The Kitchen is well equipped with a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, ceramic hob and oven. We are happy to provide any additional utensils if needed. Sun Lovers will appreciate the gite's two terraces: the front terrace has views onto the garden while the shaded back terrace has views over farmland, with woodland in the background. Low Season Holidays: If you are renting in the autumn, winter or spring you will find the gîte warm and comfortable. It is equipped with an electric central heating system, which uses oil-filled radiators to provide a gentle and pleasant heat. The wood-burning stove can provide additional heat and the building is well insulated and has double-glazing. All the beds have duvets and extra blankets

Lavaur is 3 kilometres from the gite. It is a small medieval town which has a large lively market on Saturdays. A wide variety of goods can be found in the market including organic foods, clothes, household goods and, on alternate Saturdays, animals. There are many good restaurants [http://www.gite-piquetalen.fr/lavaur_tarn_restaurants_en.html] in the town and the surrounding area. The town has a medieval centre with a 13th century Cathedral. As with many towns in the area, Lavaur was one of the bastions of the Cathar [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathars] religion and a monument marks the site where Dame Giraude de Laurac - Lady of Lavaur - was murdered when Simon de Montfort took the town in 1211. The town website [http://www.ville-lavaur.fr/article.php3?id_article=82&id_rubrique=8&lang=fr] (French) gives a detailed description of the town and its sites and includes a map. Ambres is a small picturesque hill-top village which gives its name to the Commune of Ambres in which the gîte is located. The Jardins des Martels are a ten minute drive from the gîte and cover an area of 8.6 acres. They have been classified as amongst the most beautiful gardens in France. They include a greenhouse with exotic plants, a banana plantation and a mini farm. The gardens have more than 2500 different kinds of plants. They are connected to nearby Saint Lieux les Lavaur by a steam train. [http://www.cftt.org/] Giroussens is about a 10 minute drive from the gîte. It is well known for its pottery and hosts a pottery museum. It also has superb views of the area. Buddhism: The FPMT's Vajrayogini Institute [http://www.institutvajrayogini.fr/VY.html] and Nalanda Monastery [http://www.nalanda-monastery.eu/] are both close by. The Institute has a very full programme and English translations of the teachings are often available. Most of the monks at the Monastery are English speaking and visitors are welcome every Sunday afternoon. Walking: There are gentle family walks all around the gîte and in the local area, as well as walks for more experienced walkers. The owners have walking books which can be borrowed on request. Golf: The nearby golf course, le Golf des Etangs de Fiac [http://www.nouveauxgolfsdefrance.com/golfetangsdefiac/home.cfm?CFID=1210190&CFTOKEN=33239572], is a popular and well run 18 hole course which also has an excellent restaurant. Further afield ...The cities of Albi [http://www.albi-tourisme.fr/us], Toulouse [http://www.uk.toulouse-tourisme.com/accueil/index_en.php] and Carcassonne [http://www.carcassonne.org/carcassonne_en.nsf/vuetitre/docPgeIntroVisiter] are close by and have lots to see and do. Toulouse has a space museum and also hosts the headquarters of Airbus, whose production facilities can be visited. Albi has the world's most complete collection of works by Toulouse-Lautrec in its Toulouse Lautrec museum, [http://www.mairie-albi.fr/eng/arthistory/places/museetl.html] which was once the palace of the Lord Bishop. Next door to the museum, the 13th century Sainte-Cecile Cathedral dominates the skyline. Also in the area are the towns of Castres [http://www.ville-castres.fr/_tourisme_site/_EN/index.php], Gaillac [http://www.tourisme.fr/office-de-tourisme/gaillac.htm] andCordes sur Ciel [http://www.frenchentree.com/tarn-aveyron-tourism-leisure/DisplayArticle.asp?ID=24271]. Gaillac is a well known wine producing area and is worth visiting for its wine museum and its numerous vineyards, as well as for its attractive cathedral. The [http://www.pyreneesfrance.com/]Pyrenees are a 90 minute drive from the gîte and are ideal for walking in the summer and for skiing in the winter. More InformationWe have prepared two lists giving details of things to see and do close to the holiday rental [http://www.gite-piquetalen.fr/tarn_gite_close_lavaur_en_.html] and things to do in our part of the Midi-Pyrenees [http://www.gite-piquetalen.fr/tarn_lavaur_gite_inmidipyrenees_en.html]. We hope that you will find them helpful.
