Description
If there is one place to recommend to lovers of peace and hiking, it is the Le Grangeou gite in Saint-Cirgues-de-Jordanne. This old barn has been transformed into a holiday home for 4 people. In the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Volcanoes of Auvergne, you can explore, in peace, the natural beauties of the Cantal mountains. A refuge sheltered from the world, between heaven and earth Perched 900 meters above sea level, Le Grangeou gite offers a privileged setting to spend a few days of vacation. The stone-roofed barn, built in stone two centuries ago, fits perfectly into the natural slope of the land. This 66 m² vacation rental is spread over 2 levels and can accommodate 4 people. In the living room, on the 1st floor, what will immediately seduce you is the panoramic view of the Monts du Cantal. A band window, pierced during the renovation, brings light and frames the view of the surrounding nature. The good part was made with wood, which dresses the living room, and creates a warm atmosphere. A wood stove sits in the center of this room bathed in light. The kitchen area is equipped with everything you need to prepare your meals. A spiral staircase serves the lower level. The sleeping area consists of 2 independent bedrooms: one has a double bed (140 cm), the other with 2 single beds (90 cm). On the ground floor, we also find the bathroom, with bathtub and washing machine. Domestic hot water is produced by solar panels. From the ground floor, there is easy access to the terrace and the garden trees of 1000 m². In summer, you can enjoy the barbecue, garden furniture and children's games. Pets are allowed in this rental. A car park is provided to park your vehicles. Languages spoken: Dutch, English and German Cantal, a natural destination In the Cantal, whether you are hikers, cyclists or mountain bikers, you will not be able to resist the call of the great outdoors! Here is a brief overview of some of the experiences you can have during your stay. The Outdoor Activities Station in Mandailles-Saint-Julien is an essential address for practicing activities supervised by professionals: hiking, climbing, canyoning, paragliding, mountain biking/electric hybrid bikes, via ferrata, horseback riding, walking by horse-drawn carriage, snowshoe outings, cross-country skiing, ice climbing... In the village, the Mandailles site center gives a good overview of the richness of the landscapes, local flora and fauna. Countless walks are possible on the ridges and summits of the former Cantal volcano, for all ages and all levels. The ascents of Puy Mary, Plomb du Cantal or Puy Griou will lead you to breathtaking panoramas! The territory of the Grand Site de France Puy Mary - Volcan du Cantal has 34 short hiking trails and 2 GR®. For your comfort, the owners of Le Grangeou gite provide you with IGN maps and topoguides. If you come in winter, you can go skiing at the Super Lioran resort. A family resort made up of 43 runs of all levels over nearly 60 km. The area also offers snowshoe hikes, toboggan runs, electric snowmobile rides, etc. And in summer many outdoor activities are offered to young and old alike. For a less sporty outing, near your vacation rental, opt for the discovery trail of the Gorges de la Jordanne. On a 4 km round trip, the laid out route crosses gorges dug by water over the centuries in volcanic breaches. It is dotted with information terminals on the fauna and flora. A holiday to fill up on history between castles and charming villages Cantal is also a land of culture and history, rich in fortresses and medieval castles, here are some ideas for outings to do around your cottage. In Polminhac, the Château de Pesteils, listed as a Historic Monument, is a remarkable testimony to medieval times. Its 40-meter-high keep dominates the Cère valley. In summer, costumed entertainment for children, evening visits by candlelight or even historical skits are organised. During your visit, stop in the garden to admire the superb panorama of the Cantal mountains. Halfway between Aurillac and Salers, another castle awaits you in Tournemire. Perched on a rocky promontory, the Château d'Anjony is a small 15th century mountain fortress. Its impressive keep overlooks the Dora valley. During the guided tour, you will discover the richly furnished and decorated interiors. Extend the walk to the charming village of Tournemire, ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages in France. Above the Maronne valley, the village of Salers is perched 950 meters in the middle of the Cantal mountains. This Most Beautiful Village in France owes its reputation to its built, civil and religious heritage, made up of remains from the Middle Ages and beautiful Renaissance residences. You will be seduced by the mineral beauty that emerges from the volcanic stone and the slate roofs. Salers has given its name to a breed of cattle, to a famous cheese, to an aperitif (to be consumed in moderation) made from gentian roots and to a shortbread biscuit. Enough to compose a 100% Cantal meal! The old spa town of Vic-sur-Cère deserves a closer look. You will not remain insensitive to the picturesque charm of its old town. Among the elegant residences, the house of the Princes of Monaco reminds us that the city was once placed under the authority of the Grimaldi princes. The Maison des Eaux Minérales, a former bottling factory, evokes the thermal past of the city. Go to the square, have a drink and taste the water like the spa guests of yesteryear! 20 km from your rental is Aurillac, the prefecture of the department. The city is backed by the Cantal mountains and crossed by the Jordanne. Between the Museum of Art and Archeology, the Museum of Volcanoes, the pedestrian city center, the Abbey of Saint-Géraud, or even the Château Saint-Etienne, count a day there to visit the French capital of the umbrella!
